well..it started with the fact that we now have one full time pastor on staff... then..
A long time member of our church had a heart attack and had surgery and got very sick.
Another long time member of our church passed away.
Another church family member was having surgery.
I talked the situation over with Kathy..our only full time pastor and we thought it might be a good idea for me to go to Dallas and pay a visit to our church family member that had the heart issues. Kathy was handling a funeral and going to visit our member having surgery.. First I was going to make a day of it..run up there and back...Since Donna was out of town and all I have is a hot, un-air conditioned pick-up truck I thought..hmm might be fun to go with my son and then we could take that new nissan cube.. with a/c. I also checked in with my daughter to see if she might like to have a lunch or brunch with me/us but she was busy going to Tyler and couldn't make it.. oh well..
Spoke to Austin but he had to work Saturday afternoon. I decided to get a hotel Friday night to make the trip less hard and we could bum around together a little along with making the visit to our church friend.
He made arrangements to get off work Saturday night and he thought he'd be through around 6:30 Friday and we could leave then.. sounds like a nice relaxing Saturday with my son..
A party shows up at the FUMC CLC that they thought had cancelled their party.. but I guess they didn't...so he had to stay late.. I went to FCC and moved some things around to make room for Jinx to play on Sunday morning.. I then went to FUMC to help my son move things around so he could leave..
and I didn't plan on this part...but that whole moving red padded chairs around in the gym became an amazing spiritual flashback moment for me that night... hundreds of times I moved those chairs around to set up for Upward Basketball on Saturday morning (we didn't have bleachers) and move them around again to set up for church (Center Court Service) in that same gym. A long time ago I said that gym smelled like Jesus...still does smell like Jesus to me!!
Anyway..the unplanned working late got us out of Lufkin around 9:30 and it was raining. Not fun to drive in. We stopped a couple of times to eat and to wake up etc.. of course I'm doing some twitter/fb posts along the way and my daughter calls me to see if we can have breakfast together Saturday morning since we're coming up Friday night. OK...
I finally get in bed around 2 a.m...
I'm up around 6:30 to try and find out if I had decent service at the Ex and to see if I need to be on a conf call.. and I'm groggy and not moving too fast but we finally get going and pick Hannah up around 10 and have a brunch..well really just an early lunch.. then we drop her off for a meeting she has to go to at 11 and we head back to Dallas...FYI.. DFW does not fully impart how far apart the D and the FW are.. especially in rain and slow traffic.
We go and have a great visit with our church family at Baylor... we then decide that we need to find puma shoes.. we drive around Dallas for a while and finally get to the Galleria... we eat there and the Genghis Grill and it was great. One bowl filled us up.. I know it's just a dollar more for the all you can eat but we had all we could eat.. we hang around go to a couple of stores and it looks like the puma shopping is going to be a zero.. I mean we were leaving the mall and I decided to google puma's and the finish line (which we had never heard of) has them.. we go find it and Austin gets these.
We finally head out of Dallas for L-town and drive in more rain. By the way the cube drives great..rides pretty nice and handled the crappy weather very well. We roll in to Lufkin about 9 and I find out our only full time pastor...Pastor Kathy...has the flu.. Sunday morning was not an issue..really except now I was going to have to get up earlier.. but I now had a funeral to do too. My first one ever..
Up early Sunday..wishing I was still in bed... church was great in both services. I went home and read over some notes.. put on my seldom worn suit and performed my first funeral.. it was a blessing to be there and I was glad I got to be a part of that family's celebration of life.
Then home..sat still for a few minutes then went and did music for the youth.. got done around 8:00 p.m....
and then...do you ever get so tiered and keyed up you can't go to sleep? I was up past midnight.
Ugh!!!! and when that alarm went off this morning I did NOT want to get out of bed...I drug my self out.. a little late and got to the Ex around 7.
I am looking so forward to a quiet restful evening tonight...maybe even a nap when I get home. It was a great weekend.. no doubt about it... but hope I don't have any more like it in a while. I do need a day off now and then.

Tuesdays
I'm beginning to think that Tuesdays are jinxed...
Last week..well you can read it here AND here.
Yesterday... Up early as I have someone on vacation so I need to be to the office earlier to help with check-out.. get there around 0600 plus we had poor service on Monday so I have to be on an 0700 conference call..it went on forever.
The rest of the day? Just seemed to be awkward and exhausting. Ran home and ate a late lunch then drove to Garrison to investigate a complaint..then drove back. My truck has no A/C so it was hot...Called the customer regarding the complaint and then he says he was just trying to let us know what we needed to know to deliver it to the right place. Why did customer service name this message a complaint??
Put all the paperwork together and respond to the complaint and fax it to the region.
At 6:15 I get a call from our "One Call" department. We had a few shipments that didn't make the trailer the night before. The customer service agent who called was so nice when she said.."I'm about to be so mean to you" It was funny. She said there was a pkg on our trailer that needed to be in Waco by 10:00 a.m. at a Doctors office so a child with a spinal deformity could be fitted with a neck brace and go to camp...
I told her to communicate with Express as to when their trailer leaves and I'd go find the package and drive it to Nacogdoches. I think she was a little surprised at my willingness and positive attitude but a kid going to camp??? What else could I do??
I go dig around in our trailer for a few minutes and find the package. I give her a call and she gives me the info I need to take it to Express. I run it up there with 15 minutes to spare before the trailer left. I head back home.. with 1/16th of a tank of gas left in my hot Dodge pick-up. I stop in Nac and give a gas station almost $90 bucks and fill up my truck. I get back and organize my office a little, pack my stuff and get home just a little before 7:30 p.m.
A long hard day....then Donna has me going through spreadsheets to verify numbers regarding stuff for her work at LISD. We order Pizza and I pour myself a tall cold diet coke and watch some TiVo Law & Order and I shut down for the night... I'll put my music together Wednesday at work.
I'm not complaining.. I'm blessed to have this job and to be able to do the things I do.. but two Tuesdays in a row??? I hope a pattern is not developing.

May 27th 2008....One for the books!
Yesterday started out fairly normal.. Go to FedEx in the morning a little before 7 and be FedEx guy for a while... it was not Monday but it was the first workday of the week so there was a pastor meeting in the morning. Go be pastor dude (I'm trying this based on oldfart's recommendation) for a while. Meet with pastors, meet with staff, pastor and intern lunch then back to being FedEx guy.
At Fedex for maybe an hour and then something strange happens.... the world tilts just a little off of it's normal axis. Jupiter aligns with Mars. The moon (which we could not see) turns blood red..... actually...the moon is in the last quarter phase in the sign of Pisces. The moon square Sun at 10:56 p.m. on May 27th (I really don't know what any of that means) Thanks MoonCircles.com
Anyway.. the insanity begins.
You can read about the first of the fun things that happened yesterday below in my blog on the break in.
I go back to work and then head back home a couple of hours later...
I get home and find a couple of nice long lag bolts to screw the door shut with and I'm thinking all the craziness is over.
I walk back in to the bedroom and there is this big commotion in the corner.. my cat has a squirrel. It chews a little and then plays a little and so on and so on... I'm trying to keep Donna calm and see if I can get the cat away from the squirrel. He runs under the bed hanging on to the squirrel. Great! I run him out from under the bed in to the dining room and I don't see where he goes (I'm hoping he's out the doggy door) no... he's hiding under the bell cabinet. chomping... I run him out from under there and he heads toward the newly busted door with the doggy door in it. He stops right in front of the dog door and chews some more.... Donna is not handling this well at all. The cat is really pissed but won't go outside so I finally (against my better judgement) grab him by the scruff of the neck and pick him up. He leaves a headless squirrel carcass behind. I take the cat outside then I go retrieve the squirrel and discard him in a plastic bag in the trash.
Now it's time to pick up Austin's car from repair garage we dropped it off at and take it to Cox muffler so they can check his catalytic converter. He has an old bmw with a few issues. The handle on the driver side is kinda messed up so I start to open the window so I can open it from the outside... the window drops down in to the door. I'm just glad it didn't break. I worked for about 15 minutes to pull the window up but no luck. Well I couldn't leave his car with the open window at Cox so I drove it home. I work on trying to get the window to come up but just make it worse and also end up running the battery down messing with the electric window switch and trying to get the window up with a pair of pliers.
It starts to drizzle so I just push the car under the carport and hook the charger to the battery and leave it for another time...
Austin comes home from work at the CLC at FUMC and finds the needle nose pliers Donna and I neither one could find anywhere. He pulls his window up in about 4 seconds.
I order pizza from Dominos.com, pour me a tall cold diet coke, go climb in the bed and turn on the TiVo... by this time it's almost 10:00 p.m. I didn't plan music, we didn't hang wallpaper, I just blew a ton of adrenaline and frustration and got almost nothing done..and I'm hoping nothing else happens....well I did put those two lag bolts through my door/door jam so no one could get in... I've got that going for me.
